PWVault
User Guide
Connect
- The first time you start the program you'll see the PWVault Connect
dialog.

- Pick a name for your passwords and type it in the File: edit box.
- Filenames are not case sensitive.
- For example I use Carl's as the file name.
- Different users must use a different file name.
- The next time you connect you can type the name or use the ellipsis(...)
button to select a file.
- Pick a UserID for your password file and type it into the UserID:
edit box.
- The UserID is case sensitive.
- For example I use Carl, because it's my name.
- Only one user can access the password file.
- Pick a Password for your password file and type it into the Password:
edit box.
- The Password is case sensitive.
- If no one is looking over your shoulder check Show Password to
see it.
- This is a good idea the first time just to make sure you didn't make a
typo.
- Memorize your File, UserID, and Password.
- If you forget any part you will not be able to open the password file.
- Make sure you use a strong password with digits, mixed case letters, and
punctuation.
- If you are positive your machine is secure check Auto Connect Next Time.
- If you check this box you any anyone who sits at your machine will have
access to your passwords.
- This is not recommended, but requested by several users.
- Click OK to connect to the PWVault database.
- If you click Cancel you return from whence you came.
- When you have successfully connected to a PWVault database you will see
this screen.

- To add a New Record click the append record button,
on the navigation bar,
.
Notice the navigation bar has changed to
.
- Enter an Account name.
- Enter a URL that's the http://www... thing.
- Enter a UserID.
- Enter a Password.
- Check to see it.
- Uncheck to hide it.
- Enter any anecdotal information.
- Click the Save Record button,

- or Cancel Edit button,

- When you have added many records the screen should look something like
this. ( Note my passwords have been blurred deliberately for this guide.)

- To find a record you can enter its Account name into the Search
edit box.
- As you type the database will jump to the first record that matches the
characters you've typed.
- Alternately you can scroll and click in the list box on the right.
- Thirdly you can use the first 4 buttons,
in the navigation bar to move
to the first, prior, next, or last record.
- These buttons,
, are used to copy,
edit, or delete a record.
- Using PWValult to login to a web site is now easier than ever.
- Clicking this button,
, will take your web
browser to the URL displayed.
- Clicking this button,
, then clicking in
the user name field on the web page will log you on to the site.
- Clicking the button will copy into the clipboard your UserID, a tab
character, your Password, and an enter key.
- PWVault then waits for a mouse click to paste the clipboard.
- this works for most websites. If it doesn't work you can modify the
sequence.
- Click the Edit button,
, on
the navigation bar.
- the Navigation bar will change from

- and the Login Config button will change from

- Click the Login Config button,
, and this dialog box
will appear.

- Anything you type here will be use in place of the default login
sequence.
- For example eBay has a check box to keep you logged on

- By clicking this sequence:
- This login sequence will be used to login to eBay..

- Before you can use it you must eXit,
, and Save,

- This button,
, works like the login
button,
, but just does a copy and paste for
the UserID or Password.
- While in edit mode you can generate a srong password.
- Click the Edit button,
to enter edit
mode.
- The PW edit box label will change from

- Click the PW edit box label,
and the
Password Generator will appear.

- The generated password is shown at the top.
- Click the
&
to change the length.
- You can configure
- Case
- First Character
- Other characters
- What punctuation to use
- Whether or not to use punctuation
- Click Generate & Copy to
- create another password
- copy it to the clipboard.
- Click Copy and Exit to
- Copy the password into the clipboard
- Close the Password Generator
- Paste the password into the password edit box.
- Click
to cancel the
procedure.
- The Password Generator will close
- The original password will remain unchanged.
- Other features
- Most operation can be done using the menu.
- There are several sort options.
- Click the file name to see its full file path.
- Note field can hold large amounts of data.
